Wallpaper

by on Jan.22, 2012, under Photography

Been in Frankfurt for some photo shooting with my friend Tilo. We went on top of the Main Tower where there is a observation platform located above the 54th floor. It was super windy and kinda cold but it was a great view. I tried different things, panoramas and HDRs and today managed to put something decent together. This is a wallpaper friendly size :)

Dustin Diaz shooting and Flickr

by on Apr.26, 2011, under Photography

Last Friday my old colleague Tilo paid me a visit and since he’s an ambitioned hobbyist when it comes to photography (check out his Flickr account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/galllo) we decided to do a little bit of that. We decided to do a tribute to the great Dustin Diaz and recreate his night shot portrait style as best as we could. Here’s one of the results:

Recreating the Dustin Diaz style

You can see Tilo’s efforts in his photostream. The light setup consisted of three speedlights, one to the left through an umbrella using an orange gel, one from the right behind bare white and one behind the subject with a green gel. The last one is barley visible as it just pointed on the floor. Funny thing was, this was shot right in the middle of Karlsruhe with a lot of people passing by. I wonder how many of them were thinking we were doing some sort of professional shooting there …

When I found out that I could  use my Google account to login in to Flickr I made an account there as well. I’m yet undecided where I will post pictures from now. I just know that I don’t want to keep two places up to date. We’ll see how Flickr does.

Late autumn

by on Dec.16, 2010, under Photography

Not posted anything in a while, been kinda busy with other stuff and also lazy :)

Alas, I did finish selecting and postprocessing images from a walk in the forest I made with my girlfriend some weeks ago. Autumn is a really good time of the year to be in the forests, when the sun is shining everything is colored in bright oranges and yellows. Pretty lovely! So without further ado:

Autumn photography

by on Oct.18, 2010, under Photography

Well, it’s been a while since I last posted, but not much happened. Summer days are gone and autumn is in full swing right now. It’s pretty cold and humid at times, but autumn also brings great light and awesome colors! So when the sun comes out and we go for a walk I always bring my camera. Below you can see the results of the latest strolls we took around Karlsruhe Waldstadt.

I have to admit that all of these shots were edited with my brand new copy of Photoshop Elements 9 to bring out the mood I wanted and get them closer to how things “really” looked like. I used my Canon zoom lens for all of the shots, I like the depth of field it gives more than the kit lens. Still learning to use the camera settings to get the feel I want and to get to know what lighting conditions need what settings.

In other news I got several steps closer to completing my basic equipment. Last week Amazon delivered some nice things, including a speedlight (Canon 430EX II) and several days later I also got a diffusor for that and a remote cable to unleash it from the camera mount. I really like the speedlight, shooting indoors it makes an enormous difference. And *drumroll* last but not least I finally got myself a tripod. Went with the recommendation from my friend Tilo and bought a Velbon Ultra Luxi L, pretty darn good thing. Now there’s only two more things on my wishlist: a remote trigger for the camera and a 50mm lens :)

Frankfurt photography

by on Sep.19, 2010, under Photography

Ok, after quite a while without doing any photography, here are some new images. Met with my old colleague Tilo in Frankfurt to explore the city and do some night shots of the skyline. Not much to show for it though – I definitely need a tripod! Long exposures just don’t end too well without one…
